I while ago the SuperMod paradox set up a freeware post that listed some Video Players which were all apparently good at what they do.

He said as follows:

Video Players:
VirtualDUB - http://www.virtualdub.org/
BSPlayer - http://www.bsplayer.org/
Media Player Classic - http://sourceforge.net/project/show...?group_id=82303
VideoLAN - http://www.videolan.org/

Which one in your opinion is the best one for download or if it isn't one of the listed ones, mention that too. I just want to know which Video Player you think is the best and why.

BSPlayer.
- Plays all major formats
- Can set ratios 16:9, 4:3 or customize
- Can play subtitles
- Plays VOBS too
- Always on top
- Desktop mode
The only thing it doesnt do that I hope they implement is to play DVD's

PS: VirtualDUB isnt a video player... its an editor!

Doesn't play DVDs, darn thats kinda what I was looking for. Umh, what do you mean by ratios, ratio of what? Thanks, btw.

VirtualDUB? You having a laff?

Best player listed VLC (plays DVDS/svcds/vcds and avi's AND can bypass Windows.....and free, EVERYONE should have this player.
MPC is OK
BSPLayer is OK (crap on tv out)
Where's Zoomplayer (excellent for TV out...probably the best) on your very short list and TCMP both free in non DVD versions?

The thing with media players is you get used to *YOUR* favourate, and I love ZPlayer.

Do you think the Zoomplayer would play dvds on a Dell 4300S w/o a CD burner?

Hold on a sec, Zoomplayer Pro plays DVD's ($20) not standard Zoomplayer (and you'll need a MPEG2 decoder)...oh and Zoomplayer can be tricky to set up if your faint hearted. Zoomplayer is incredibly powerful...but with that power comes about a billion (OK maybe a few less) options on configuring it....plus setting up FFDshow.

Whats a CD burner got to do with anything? You either>

a) Need a DVD drive (to play DVD disks).
b) Need a DVD .iso on your HD (and mount then play)
c) Need the DVD files (ripped from the main movie VOB) on your HD (play as files).

Get VLC its free and plays DVD's from disk or files, or a 'known' software DVDPlayer like Sonic, WinDVD or PowerDVD.

What is it EXACTLY that you want to do

If you're looking for a full-featured free player that supports DVDs, I'd highly recommend Media Player Classic. It supports most of the popular file formats, custom Pan & Scan, and most importantly, DVDs (with subtitles). VideoLAN Client is also an excellent player, but I'm not a big fan of the interface. Probably your best bet is to try a few players and get a feel for which one YOU like the best, since that's what's important anyways :)

BTW, I didn't realize VirtualDUB was under video players.. I've corrected that mistake as well as added Zoomplayer and TCMP to the players list. Thanks everyone :)

ahhh yea ZhengHe, you do have a DVD player dont you?
Whatever software you get or decide to use youll still need a DVDROM atleast.

(Unless you wana get technical and use images/iso's, Virtual ROMs etc, but then youll get into other things like how to make and then get the iso on your drive)
