Batteries for a digicam

I just got a Canon Powershot A310, and I was wondering if you really need to use "Canon" NiMH batteries. It says you should use the Canon batteries in the manual, but to me this just seems like a way to sell more Canon products.

no you do not have to specifically buy Canon brand nickel metal hydrides. any AA metal hydride batteries will work. if you have your own batteries than use em. you can even use alkaline if you want to.

I can suggest getting the Rayovac 1 hour metal hydride recharger and their hydride batteries. the stuff is cheap and it works very fast and reliable. just remember to leave the switch on metal hydride mode not nickel cadmium mode.
