Which Audio Mixer

I'm definately getting one of these audio mixers for my band to record demos and possibly for other purposes but I'm stuck on which one. What is send and return? Is it sending it to auxilary effect hardware?

Send is where you can copy a signal from a channel to an output for use somewhere else, ie. effects.

Return is simply an insertion point for some audio, most normally another channel.

Before you buy anything try and listen to it in action. Duff hardware leads to duff recordings. You'll also want to consider what mikes you are using, it doesn't matter how good your desk is if your mikes are crap.

Stear clear of using effects unless you really need to.

Learn about compression, easily the most usefull audio tool out there, but tends to be overused to death.
