audio issue

My issue is when I try to open large programs, or even sometimes small ones, my audio lags, what I mean is it skips and crackles. I don't see how, because both hdd's are completly defragged, i have a 2ghz cpu with 512 ram. I really don't see whats causing it.

What app are you using to play music ?
Have you tried multiple applications ?
Have you checked the CPU usage while playing these songs ?

I'm using winamp to play songs, and cpu usage is around 40-50% when opening big files.

Is is steady at 40 - 50 % ? Or does it jump from like 4% to 50% ?

it jumps to like 20 then up to that then goes down and up till its open.

How does it act when you open something in wmp or a different app then winamp ?
