Speech became metallic and echoed after using Audacity's Noise Removal filter

I tried using Audacity's Noise Removal function to remove the background noise from some mp3 audio files (church sermons which I had ripped from CDs) but strangely the result sounded metallic and echo-like.

Even setting the amount of noise I wanted filtered to the minimum only offered slightly better result, but still unsatisfactory. What could be the cause?

Thx advance for the feedback.

I'm was not aware that Audacity was tailored to clean up mp3 files. Did you get it with a usb turntable? I was always under the impression that Audacity mainly deals with vinyl restoration. You may want to look into Sony Soundforge to clean up your mp3, wav files. You could also look into Cakewalk Nero. Try getting them off of a file sharing program, as they are a bit pricy.

Re:

Hello,

In audacity, did you take a Noise Profile of background noise (insignificant audio)...

...or did you take a sample of significant audio (for example, a sample where someone is talking)?
