Assorted Problems

1. Windows Media Center won't load. I get a Common Language Runtime Error when I try to start it, or install any .NET components to possibly alleviate the problem.
2. DVD Video playback stutters severely and I have no audio.
I'm at my wit's end right now, and would really like to fix these problems, perferably without doing a system restore and losing my documents.

if the dvd playback stutters, there are three problems:

your computer cant handle media centre and the dvds.
your dvd player is tired out, broken
your discs are faulty

copy all of your files onto dvd/cd, and reformat soon!

Okay, the DVD problem is confirmed to be hardware-related, but the PC is new; there's no way the drive is all ready worn out. I'll continue to grapple with Media Center.
