Thought it was my computer then I got a completely new one (as seen in my sig) and the problem persists.. IS is my 5.1 speaker system?

PROBLEM: my sound will fade down to nothing, then I turn it up to hear it and it blasts loud.. then it fades down to nothing.

It's likely that the problem is your speakers. Try using an mp3 player or other portable device as the source and see if the sound still fades.
