I'm tired of getting this file "cannot be played" or it is not compatible.

Is there any video player out there that works with just about any format?

Thanks.

while VLC may do what you want, it doen't necessarily do it the best. I really like The K-Multimedia Player (epsecially for DVDs) and mplayer/gmplayer/mplayerfrontend.

mplayer is very fast/lightweight player that plays almost anything but its functionality may be limited if you don't know the hotkeys or dislike the command line, where as KMP is a little more resource intensive but it has a rediculous amount of tweaking options

I am yet to find a video player in linux or windows that I like more than VLC. Its light, nice and simple.

I love VLC. It plays almost any format. The only one thing I don't like, is that you can't skip or fast forward in full screen mode.

But maximize the app and minimize the start bar and its pretty much the same just with the seek bar.
