if you like just messing around and making loop-based music, ACID 5.0 is the program for you. you can also record audio like any other program, but the tempo and time setting features are amazing.

It's actually not that good.

Ableton Live 5 is my choice, it's far more complex, powerful and innovative. Fully handles both loop based work and sample and midi based work.

Overall for me it's the best IMO, but Reason, Sonar and Protools are also great.

acid is cheaper than most, which is why i suggested it. Reason is insane, but more expensive. so i guess you have you make compromises

"actually, it's not that good".... that's a little bit subjective, i think. I was able to compose and make 3 songs that my friends and I enjoy in about 3 or 4 hours. that's good to me.
