5.1 speakers - Gigabyte GA-7VA board

I have a Gigabyte GA-7VA board with VIA KT400 chipset/onboard sound. OS = Win ME. I am thinking of buying 5.1 speakers but cannot find out if my system supports them. Will they connect to the existing (single) line in socket or do I need to buy a PCI sound card? Can anyone advise.

i think you will need a sound card make sure you buy one that supports 5.1

With my onboard 5.1 when i switch it on it change's my mic-in and line-in jack's so they can be used as output's for my speaker's to hook up to,i don't know if it would be the same or not on your's but you can alway's fiddle around with it and see.
