Transfer video footage from 8mm to iMac

I have some video on 8mm tapes which I would like to transfer to my iMac.

I'm using a Samsung VP-L850D camcorder which has an S-VIDEO connection and an A/V out.

In the past I bought an EasyCAP adapter, but could never get it to work properly. To begin with I managed to get video but no sound to appear on the computer. Trying again a couple of years later I couldn't get it to do anything.

I would love to know if it's even possible to connect such an old camera to an iMac purchased a couple of years ago.

Any help would be great.

I would assume something like this would work, fairly inexpensive and has all the connections you need.

It has mixed reviews, but generally it seems to work once you get the driver thing sorted out. Some people have driver problems, others seem to have no problem with plug and play. Other options exist, but are fairly expensive (talking $150+).

If you decide to go with that and have any issues, definitely read the reviews on amazon, they seem to be pretty helpful.
