How to restore dwg file?

in autoview i can click file - open and then browse to the cad drawing (*.dwg) and it opens fine, but if i double click the dwg file it comes up with error " filename.dwg is not a valid Win32 application ". I have right clicked and tried "open with" but still the same thing. I have gone into windows explorer - tools - folder options - file types and restored and then tried " open with " again. please help

Did you make sure to set the file association to CAD?
