This is the grand question many people ask themselves when they get addicted to these mmos. Personally, I was an avid rs player for years until i realized i was wasting time. But playing has introduced me to tech and allowed me to be more engaged in technology as a whole. For people asking themselves this question, take your age and time spent into consideration. If you're only spending a few hrs a day and u can manage other things in life then ur good.

If you're like me and spent 18 hrs a day then maybe u should reconsider ur life.

Heres an article I read that explains the reasons someone should quit MMOS and be more productive. Should I Quit Runescape Or WoW? | Tech Analysis, Updates, and More

Is It Time To Quit? - Player Perspectives (Archived) at MMORPG.com
^this article explains why mmo companies want u to stick around and not go anywhere.

Both good reads if ur considering moving on

Interesting read. If you are addicted to something, you should try and cut down. However, not remove it from your life as a whole. I think that you should manage your games easier in a timetable. I use a timetable that lets me revolve around coursework, work, studying and gaming which is very manageable and I still get a good experience from my games. Maybe do that.

Personally its hard for me to balance. If i get into something I get into it big time. Maybe some people are good at time management but personally I cant force myself to quit gaming and go study or do something productive llol

That is why you should try cut down and timetable it. Think about your future life and get some motivation to get off the game. My motivation is the person I look up to most is a gamer, but he study hard and became CEO of a company. He managed his gaming and his life pretty well. It doesn't take major time management. And you'll enjoy the game much better if you take a break and come back to it.

I Play Computer games myself. Always have since i was like 15. I'm 24 now. Throughout my whole life friends and family would always tell me I'm gonna regret sitting at home playing games. When i look back at it now... I don't regret it... any of it. I had such a great time developing friends online and doing something i love. I have a lot of memories from the time i played WoW in vanilla. It inspired me to get a degree in computers and it shaped me to the man i am today in the IT world and my current career. I still play games. I Showed my wife how fun games are and now she plays with me. We play CS:GO together, GW2, DoTA 2, and now today ESO. Dont change who you are because others try to say different. Do what you love, and what makes you happy.

Have you tried playing League of Legends? Great game :) but recommended playing with a friend/family because alone it gets boring...like most games. :D

I confess - I did not read the links. However, my 2 cents :

If you are not attaining your goals outside of gaming , then you have an issue. Some people just have an " addictive personality " or have some OCD that they really cannot stop gaming all the time and other responsibilities are pushed aside. IF that is the case , then you must figure out a way to either completely stop or manage the time . If, however, you are allowing others to tell you what you should be doing for fun or in your relax time. Then I say, be yourself and enjoy life- the heck with them. I love when people judge or think they know what is best for you, but don't even know what makes you happy - happy people are more productive. That is some of the basis for a capitalistic society - people striving to improve their lives and themselves individually to be happier. Thus they are more productive. It is called freedom. So, would sitting in front of a TV all the time, reading a fictional books all the time, or in a casino, or X,y, Z make you happier? or more productive outside of those activities? Probably not. It is a question of time management. If you have to, set up a gaming schedule of specific times you allow yourself to game and stick to it- develop habits that other responsibility come first= Work first and play second attitude and habitual lifestyle type of stuff. IF you can't stick to it - then you have a issue that you should address.

I have always avoided WoW and RS because I know I'll get sucked in and be there for months or years. People have offered to buy me WoW+game time, and I've always declined.

theirs nothing wrong with mmo's if you have enough down time and dont have a lot of obligations in life, I played wow until cata then switched to ffxiv all together around 5-6 years now its hard for me to put a solid 4-5 hours into a game each week due to work
