I want to start learning a new language pretty soon but I don't know what would be best. I have a pretty thorough grounding in PHP, VB6, Javascript, and I've tried Visual C++ but it scares me.

I was thinking maybe Perl or ASP - d'you think either of those would be good options?

Thanks!:)

Well, Don't even thing about learning ASP! (It's the most stupid language I've ever seen in my life!)

because it's slow, it isn't like the most languages and you can only make web-pages with it!

You might want to learn visual C++. Thats a "real" language.
Scares you? That means its awesome..

if you are after a new and upcoming language try C# , not sure how it is different from C++ but ive heard good things about it

ASP.NET is faster than PHP, and VBScript is very useful in a variety of programming languages. However, if you know PHP, don't try to learn ASP - they do the exact same thing.

The best thing for you to learn is unequivocally Java.
