Well I don't know if this should be in the Other Computer HW Topics, but b1gapl did explain to me what folding is which helps scientist find a cure for many diseases. But I'm still really confused. Can someone explain it a bit more so that I might be able to understand what folding is? Or even some pictures?

Folding takes small bits of protein molecules and distributes the mathematical versions of them to hundreds of thousands of home computers. These computers crunch the numbers using spare CPU cycles, and then upload them back and get a new one.

While each computer only makes a minute contribution, all together they constitue more CPU power than any super-computer or two. Since the CPU power is being donated, researchers can focus their funds in other areas.
