I bought a system 5 months old P4 system 1 month ago for only $400CAN dollar and it worked fine.

P4 2.5 (400FSB, 512Cache)
P4S8X-X motherboard
DDR333 PC2700 512MB
Maxtor 80G hard drive
ATI readon 9200se 128MB
LG CD-RW 52x32x52
Floppy 1.44

This system worked fine. The temperature is on the warm side, but acceptable. Why does people spend thousands to buy those expansive ones? After one year, the price will drop 30%-50%.

And by the way, could someone explain to me what iDDR333 PC2700 means.

Same thing I think, Its better to buy a midrange computer every 1-2 years instead of getting some huge awesome gaming machine, as long as you resarch your parts throughly.

iDDR333 PC2700

thats ur memory, if you ever need to upgrade or get new memory you need taht type.

BAH!!

It's all about performance with some of us, some dont understand unfortunatley...just dont understand.

lol, why do people spend lots of money on traveling?

its just a personal preference, i like being up to date with technology, but most of the time i dont have the money.

it's their hobby basically, just like some people like making faster cars and modding them with neons and stuff

currently I have plans to buy a really high end system so I don't have to upgrade for quite some time; currently I am sitting on a 700MHZ P3 and TNT2

DDR333 means that your RAM runs at 333MHZ
actually it runs at 166MHZ, but it transfers 2 things at a time, so it is equivalent to 333MHZ if it were transferring 1 thing at a time

these are the RAM speeds I can remember right now:
PC2100 = 266MHZ (really 133)
PC2700 = 333MHZ (really 166)
PC3200 = 400MHZ (really 200MHZ)
PC3500 = 433MHZ (really 216MHZ)
PC3700 = 466MHZ (really 233MHZ)
PC4000 = 500MHZ (really 250MHZ)
PC4200 = 533MHZ (really 266MHZ)
PC4400 = 550MHZ (really 275MHZ)

yeah its all about speed and performance. Some of us just have to have nothing but the best lol.

Its the same with anything you enjoy as a hobbie. Cars is a good example as someone else said. Mountain biking - people ride around on bikes that cost a few grand etc. If you really enjoy something you want to have the best, its just the way it is.
