When should i build?

I am going to build my own computer for the first time and i was wondering how much cheaper it would be for me to wait until july or so to build it instead of now.

it depends because the new venice and dual cores are coming out. dont get 754 get 939, also try to stick with asus, abit, dfi, or msi for mobos.

The dual cores are coming out. But who really knows how expensive they will be. What is your budget?

I still dont understand the major difference between 764 and 939 socket. Care to explain?

939 has more pins then the 754, plus i heard dual cores are coming out on socket 939, so they are more upgradable in the future

Ok so i'm lookin around for another CPU and I was wondering how much of a performance dent it would be for me to go from a 764 AMD64 3400+ to a socket 939 AMD64 3200+ if I like to multitask and do some gaming (939 is $10 cheaper than 764)

Well, it would be big enough. Since the 754 3400 is also 2.2ghz, but most important 1mb L2 cache. But on the other side, the 3200 is socket 939 with dual channel memory. Dual channel memory is great. Socket 939 is also great, since it has more pins. But it also runs at the same frequencey as 754, while running faster and cooler.

Personally, i would get the 939 with a 3200 winchester. I have heard nothing but great things about the 3200 winchester.
