I am going to very blunt here.

There is only ONE right way to apply thermal paste...

A dot, no bigger than a grain of cooked white rice, placed in the center of the seated Proc. It will be spread by you seating and securing the heatsink..

Temps are best When it is done this way.

It had to be said...
Sorry!!

Yes. Most will do it this way. I have always had very good temps by spreading a very thin layer on both cpu and hsf. Those that are reading this I'm not suggesting my way is the best way. Just saying my temps have always been very very good. But most users will do the rice thing.

hmm i reseated it and wiped off the grease, im getting 42c idle at 3.4ghz so thatsan improvement over yesterday... none the less i think ill remove it once again :) and use less without spreading it at all. just to clarify to the point of absurdity, its ok if the heatsink touches the chip directly out to the sides right? i mean if i put the rice sized dot in the middle it wont reach all the way out so will that be efficient?
