You can't compare cores that aren't the same. 6600 is a performance card whereas the 6800's are the 'Enthusiasts' card and the 6200's will be mainstream cards. You can't compare the core and memory speeds of cards that have different structures internally. I believe the will both still be using GDDR3, but when you're talking about the just regular 6800, that only has 128mb of memory on it so it's the lower end of the 6800's so it has the lower memory and core speeds, whereas the 6600GT is at the higher end of the 6600 series so even though it also has GDDR3 memory, they gotta have the core/and memory faster based on a couple things, the fact that one card is 128-bit opposed to the other being 256-bit lets it get away with having slower core/memory speeds, and since the 6600GT is technically a 'lesser' card they have to get as much performance out of whats there as they can.

So in this instance it's not just numbers vs numbers like a lot of people try and do with Intel vs Nvidia. You have to look at EVERYTHING meaning it's core, memory, bitrate, etc..etc..

So do I, What would be better a 200$ AGP 6600GT 500/1000 128bit or a 280$ AGP 6800 325/700 256bit?

i think a small upgrade would be the 6600GT. for the long term stuff it would be the 6800GT. in the bench marks in tomshardware.com, the 6600GT does almost the same as the 6800. it sounds like a very good bang for the buck

the 6600 PCIe/AGP is definately the hottest "midrange" card at the moment, especially the doom3 performance is astonishing.

There's a link (although out of stock at the moment =/ ) of a 6800GT which is different from just the 6800 128mb that you were talking about Musjunk, so for $400 you could get the 256mb 6800GT 256-bit which would obviously be way more performance than the 6600GT 128bit 128mb memory card.

Regarding the 6800 128mb 256 bit and the 6600GT 128mb 128bit, you gotta figure (especially if you go through eVGA) that you will be able to overclock it, so really, it seems like the 6600GT even though having half the bit rate, would probably be able to make up for it with faster core/memory speeds and OC'ability although no OC'ability has been guaranteed yet as no one has the AGP 6600GT

Yes I also read an article where it did quite well, surprisingly well even, the reviewers couldn't believe how far you could up the settings and retain not only good but smooth gameplay.

So in the long run, it would be better to have the 256bit card cause once again if you get eVGA's version you'd get that 6800 up to 450/900 speeds probably as long as you have cool system air, but like I said the 6800 128mb card isn't $400 so if you have $400 to spend then 100% go with eVGA's 6800GT 256mb card
