is it possible, like it is to make a virtual drive, how about virtual memory, a program that could set aside say 64 mb, 124, 256..... MB of hard drive space and utilize it as RAM to provide more free memory without having to buy new chips?

Yeah. its already on your hard drive if ur using XP.
Its called Paging file, buts its reeeeaaall slow man, get phsical memory!

The virtual memory concept is supported by all modern OS. But its not the way you talk about. There is no way that a CPU can access directly the hard disk contents. The CPU executes all the programs by fetching the instructions into the hardware memory unit[RAM]. So there is no way that you can use your hard disk space as RAM . you have to buy new chips ;)

The virtual memory concepts are totally different.

Virtual memory is the sum of physical memory and the page/swap file.

yeah virtual mem is almost useless and tons of it will bring an incremental increase in performance, whereas phys mem will boost your system immediately and noticibly
