ok im building a comp at the end of summer with the money i make from my job. im not quite sure wut my budget will be exactly but id like to get most of the details finished so i can get it as soon as i hav enough money. there r a few cards i was considering nd i was wondering wut evry1 has to say about them. keep in mind tho that i mite SLI or crossfire them in the future.

lower budget:
BFG 6800GT
X800XL (not sure wich brand)

higher budget:
Sapphire Blizzard X850XTPE
BFG 7800GTX
X900 (if it ever comes out...)

nd please, i dont want this to turn into a biased post, please bac up ur opinions with facts!

Scrap the high end system, unless you can afford it. In which case go for the 7800 GTX as it completley destroys competition. If you want to save some money definatley go for the 6800 GT, great performance and still somewhat "Future proof" as it has more advanced hardware than the x800's (which are steroid versions of their ealier counterparts).

Facts?

Ok:

First off BFG comes oc'd out of the box, however good that might be, eVGA is currently the nVidia 6 series master. That is fact, however either way you really can't go wrong.

Here are some performance benchmarks on the ultra high end cards:

wow seems like the X850XTPE isn't very far behind. hav any benchmarks comparing the EVGA 6800GT and the X800XL?

At the moment and I can't find any. However I can tell you that they will be very similar in performance.

One thing to keep in mind however is that most benchmarks (especially 3dMark) are always going to lean on better performance on ATi's part. What ATi does is make a fast GPU, a "hyper" version of the one that came before it, updating some things here and there and putting on a giant HSF (heatsink/fan).

nVIDIA on the other hand, designs their GPU's to be more of a image quality coupled with performance style of build, they might look to perform a little bit less, but look alot better ingame. Also the 7800 GTX hasnt seen it's glory days yet, when the hardware put into it is utilized in games, we will see a huge jump in it's performance over the x850's same with the 6800's.
