Underclocking a laptop

I have a toshiba laptop that is dieing on me because the cpu is over-heating (some of you may have read my posts in trouble-shooting). Since I can't send this thing to get fixed yet, I need a temporary solution to keep the thing from heating up so much.

I'm assuming that since it is possible to overclock a laptop, it is possible to "underclock" it. Is this correct? If it is, how can this be done?

Also, would this void the warrenty?

It can only be done if your BIOS is unlocked, which it may or not be...I don't know as it is a laptop and it's been premanufactured with a company specific BIOS

Assuming you can access the chipset options in the BIOS, you want to lower your FSB speed and what many people may forget, lower your vcore as well...your vcore is what really impacts your temperatures and simply lowering clock frequency won't really lower temperatures as much

You'll have to prime95 test the new settings to make sure your CPU is ok operating at the decreased vcore settings
