The TRUE is a great heatsink, but there appear some quality control issues with it. Lapping it will make a huge difference. The "scratches" arent from anything you did, thats just the way the base was milled. Mine was like that too, after i lapped it, my temps came down around 10C on average.

Well, i actually dropped about 14C on the outer cores and about 5C on the inner cores. My true was VERY concave and was only making good contact dead center.

Yeah, I read that the TRUE's base isn't the best. Tell me, I've heard about lapping, but I've never done any. How do you "lap" a heatsink exactly?

tape sandpaper to glass
wet sandpaper
pull base of heatsink along sandpaper until satisfied with flatness.
There are tons of lapping guides around.

XD np. I thought it was a good guide, and lapping Will make a difference if the units dont sit flat. Easy way to tell is stand the TRUE upside down, seat the processor on top, and shine a light from the back XD All in the guide though.

Or just get a razor blade and see if you can see light between the blade and the heatsink.
