So my current idle temps are 39°c-41°c-42°c-42°c

When i run any type of stress test, it rockets up to 92°c before i stop the test in fear of blowing my pc up

Room temp is 22°c

Case has great airflow, just cleaned it a few days ago, plenty of room and the case is not in a tight spot

odd thing is, after running Prime95 (after like 2 min lol) Real Temp says it peaks at 92°c but, i don't feel one ounce of heat coming out of the case.

do i have a bad chip? bad version of Real Temp?

Real Temp 3.60

on Windows 7 Home Edition 64bit

i've also followed step by step guides to applying the thermal paste, changed it 3 times and, don't seem to change anything

BIOS reads idle temps are about 36°c

Try using another program called hardware monitor, to rule out that software.

What thermal paste did you re-apply it with?

What Heatsink/Fan are you using? - Is the fan set to full RPM?

Have you ensured that your voltages are set correctly?

Is your heatsink secure?

Will try Hardware monitor

TP was some ****ty DYNEX Silver stuff i had laying around

Stock Cooler from Intel

Core Voltage in CPU-Z Says 1.040V

Heatsink is solid, won't budge

I strongly reccomend you to get an aftermarket heatsink.... Especially an i7 that's being Ocled....

If you don't have much to spend an artic cooler freezer pro v2 will do.

You probably used to much paste. You only need a little, no more than what would equal a single dried grain of rice.

To much paste is bad, less is better.

The first try, I know I had to much, but I did the rice size amount the last 3 times. I don't think AS5 would make THAT big of a change, 5-10c maybe but, I should never see 90s

I did check it at stock settings and I still hit 80s

Well, my buddy just left. We put some AS5 on there ( Better than the cheap stuff i had at least )

did a few tests

Checked temps on stock settings.

Reapplied CPU with AS5, checked temps....exact same

Updated the BIOS, same temps

Did the last test we could think of lol

Held the fan down while in windows, monitoring temps in Hardware monior, and Real Temp and the temps never moved. Did the same test in bios, stopped the cpu fan and the bios temp did not change one bit.

I think somethings stuck lol
