Default Scythe Infinity problems

I just got an infinity cooler and it actually has increased my temps 10 deg c. i know there is something wrong coming from a stock cooler, and from what i can gather its becasue its not fitting right on the mobo and does not have a good contact with the cpu. i installed it and saw the temps and was worried so i took it off and it looks like the as5 i put on it was only disturbed around the outside of the heatspreader on the cpu.

Also im a little confused that the infinity does not come with a retention back plate, while the ninja does?
