Default Sata Drive

I'm a first time computer builder who is still learning about RAID HD set-ups.Is it possible to start out with a single sata drive and then eventually move to a RAID 0 format or does it have to be done RAID 0 at the beginning.

You'll have to wipe the whole drive if you want to create the RAID after using one drive.
