Default Risks and improvements

I am getting a new PC soon and I am thinking about getting parts over clocked. I need to know a couple things before I decide.

1. Is it risky/dangerous to do? can I cause permanent damage to my PC... etc?

2. Is it worth it? How much of an improvement is gained from over clocking? percentage wise? I know you can over clock different amounts and different parts... but for each part, average over clocking... what range of percentage of an improvement is there?

If I were you, I would just overclock it to the very safe one.

Like my Q6600, I am only going up to 3.0ghz

it's totally safe and easy to do. Think about it, you can increase performance by 50% for free. As long as you don't go overboard w/ the voltage and watch temps you are fine. I've gone as high as 1.625 on a chip before for a suicide run. With vdroop it was 1.6

2 minute runs for benchmark scores.

% wise at q6600 at 2.4Ghz stock, gets 3.0Ghz easy with no real change. Thats 25% gain. It also is very noticable improement with load times.
