I was wondering if for example, you just built a new computer and you want to OC. Is it alright to OC it out of the box? or do you run it for a couple of days before you OC.

Pretty sure you have to run it for abou a week or two before you should OC, to let the thermal paste settle, and for the CPU to burn itself in a little or something.

i dunno, but i heard somewhere that the 'burn in' thing is a myth, and cant u just burn it in buy running like prime95 and 3dmark or something? puts it on full load so.....

That's what I did when I got my CPU. I ran prime95 for like 4 dyas straight at stock speeds then I overclocked.

wow with all the stuff on the internet these days cpu burn-in doesnt sound the saftes "heats up any x86 CPU to the maximum possible operating temperature that is achievable by using ordinary software" sounds a little extreme, i just waited a week, i left it on two nights in that first week and its now oc'ed by 5x, im doin small intervals
