Re-applying thermal paste- need suggestions for cleaning old layer

I wish to apply a new layer of thermal paste for my CPU/heatsink (see below).

Would anyone here recommend Acetone for removing the old layer? I've read up that this is a substance that is used, an alternative being high-purity isopropyl alcohol.

Any knowledgable suggestions appreciated.

yup alcohol or acetone, long as it evaporates and its non corrosive

I don't recommend acetone, use high-purity isopropyl rubbing alcohol
