Default RAM Compatability

I just bought a 1GB Kingston ValueRAM DDR400 (PC3200). I have a left over 256MB DDR400 Elixir . My question is, will they run together smoothly? Or is it even a good idea?

They will, but your new ram will only be as fast as the old stick. If you have a dual channel motherboard, you will not get the ram running in dual channel, as you need sets of 2 sticks.

Its upto you, do you need the extra 256? Games like BF2 and FEAR will use up more than 1gb on higher settings.

I added the extra 256, and it seems to run fine. Being they are both DDR400 i figured they would. But i thought i would ask just incase there was somthing i didnt know.
