Default radeon vs radeon

ok what is the difference between a radeon x800 xt and a radeon x800 xt platinum edition?

They are basically the same card yes, although I'm pretty sure that the PE outperforms the regular xt, but costs more.

The X800 XT and X800 XT PE are discontinued now. This is the table:

$549 X850 XT PE
$499 X850 XT = 6800Ultra
$399 X850 Pro
$299 X800 XL = 6800GT
$199 X800 = 6600GT
$149 X700 Pro = 6600
$129 X600 XT = 6200
$99 X600 Pro = 6200

Out of those, the X800 or X800 XL looks like the best unless you get the X700 Pro which is great too. Depends on whether you are PCIe or AGP.

Its very simple, the XT Platnium is faster. Just a little though, next time check out their Chipset/Core Speed, and EffectiveMemory Speed.
