Default problem with latest 64 bit upgrade help please.

Hi everyone i had my pc upgraded yesterday to an athlon 64 3200, asus k8n-e deluxe mobo and another stick of ram adding up to a gig.

I have a problem though and that is sometimes when i go to click on a icon or open a program nothing happens and if i keep doing it then go to restart it will appear can somebody help me out on this.

The geezer in my computer shop who built the pc said that i could have donw with a reinstall and i was like not sure so i didnt bother. I went back today and he said that the reinstall should sort it as where as the programs are used to the 32bit cpu the change to 64bit makes the pc strugle to recognise it thereofr a reinstall will make everything faster and this problem will go. I think i remembered it right is this true and will the reinstall make the difference. If not what could this problem be?

I would re-install. I have no idea what could be the problem. Anybody?
