on my a8n-sli i have the cool and quiet option and same with my friends gigabyte k8nf-9

cool'n'quiet speeds up your cpu fan and slows it down when needed. i dunno but this gave me some more mhz into OCing .

and also make sure you use the LOCKED sata150 ports so you dont OC your hdd

Cool and Quiet underclocks your CPU if it is not under load in order to decrease heat output...obviously the last thing you want when testing for stability is your vcore and HTT speed bouncing up and down under different situations

I assume you could also damage the chip by constantly expanding and contracting the silicon under load
