En route to building my first computer in the next couple
months or so. I am pretty savy yet never worked with a
motherboard/processor before. I already have a good
monitor, DVD/CD-RW drive, and two harddrives which
total to 150GB of space - I'm fine with that for now. Oh
and I also already have 1GB of dual channel Ram.

So basically I am just purchasing a case w/power, a new
motherboard, a new processor and a graphics card. Let
me know if these are a) compatible and b) mid-range decent.

I am mostly a gamer, currently playing World of Warcraft,
and awaiting Battlefield 2 in March! /drool

Well, i suggest getting a socket 939 3000. The socket 939 Athlon 3000 is 90nm, so they will run alot cooler, and socket 939 runs faster then socket 754 on the same frequency. Socket 939 is so much better then 754, along with its processors.

I highly suggest getting a new mobo. Thats something you need to do. The AV8 are good. So i would get a Abit 3RD EYE AV8 K8T800, or MSI K8N Neo Platinum mobo. Both are very inexpensive.

Those suggestions are awesome and I appreciate it - only about a twenty dollar price difference too. Thanks for pointing the difference between the sockets on the AMD processors too, I would of never known. This is what I will update it to then - any other suggestions are welcome.

Now is the mid-tower case okay? I honestly know nothing about cases but it seemed to provide a good amount of power, expanding capabilities and size for a standard ATX motherboard.

Codeine has a good suggestion, but I think that you should get a different Motherboard, the ASUS "A8N-SLI Deluxe" nForce4 SLI Chipset Motherboard For AMD Socket 939 CPU. While being the top motherboard on the market, it also includes 2 pci-e s16x slots, which in my opinion, is the future for videocards. This Motherboard can be had for $180 at zipzoomfly.com A very good site, second only to newegg (it is 270$ at newegg). This motherboard will also be very good for upgrading in the future.

On another side, no I don't think its worth its to get a 6800 without 256 megabites of ram. I would just get a 6600 gt instead. Make sure the videocard is pci-e though.
