PCI 2.0 and PCI x16

I think its **** near impossible to choke a 2.0 x16 slot with current cards, and its pretty difficult to choke a 1.1 x16 slot. Take the p45 boards for example. They support crossfire with 2 pci e slots. They are both 2.0, but one is 16x and the other is 8x, even with 2 hd4870s there is no bottleneck. Simply put the pci express bus is capable of pushing more data than any video card around. That's gonna change soon enough but they are already working in pci e 3.0.

very true... even an HD4870X2 would be hard pressed to saturate a x16 1.1 slot... with a decent OC you might find it kinda falls down in high resolutions, but up to 16x12 it'll be fine... the HD5800 series and the GTX 300 series will change that tho... but a 2.0 slot will be fine to support any of those

3.0 wont be really necessary until early 2010 at least... but by then it should be very common
