I've just built my first computer, and it all works very well. However, I have noticed that when i switch it on at the mains the computer emits about 3 or 4 beeps of varying length without me touching it, and then the green power light stays on even though the computer is off. The motherboard I am using is an ASUS P4P800-X. Is there a way to make it turn off properly or stop the light showing when it's off, or has anyone else come accross a similar problem before?

Thanks in advance.

when your computer beeps it's generally trying to tell you of a hardware malfunction.

If you find out the maker of your BIOS - Award, Phoenix or AMI Bios, then you can google up BIOS Beep codes to find out what the error is.

Do you know what BIOS maker you have offhand?

http://bioscentral.com/beepcodes/awardbeep.htm - Thats Award beep codes.

http://bioscentral.com/beepcodes/amibeep.htm - AMI Bios

http://bioscentral.com/postcodes/phoenixbios.htm - Phoenix beep codes

Those are 3 pretty common BIOS's
