Opinions on cpu and motherboard

something along the lines of dfi lan party or gigabyte nforce4 ultra
3200+ winchester
 
Get the items seperatley so you can get the parts you want. maybe get a amd 64, may push your budget looking at the price of the combo. get better ram cas latency of 3 *shudders*
 
Thanks for the responses. Im not looking to spend that much maybe $300 for the motherboard, cpu, and some memory. I dont need the top of the line I realy only use the coputer for the net and some school work, I have a laptop as well. Also im upgrading from an amd 600mhz so anything will be better than that.

Any suggestions of what I should look for, it doesnt have to be amd, I did like the way the 600 ran though.

This would be pretty darn fast. And I picked a motherboard on the assumption that you would be using an AGP video card. If you want PCI-Express this one won't work.
 
I upgraded the case, sound card (soundblaster live!) and video card(radeon 7000 64mb DDR)

I will look into what you suggested
