Re: The Tech Forums Official 3DMark06/03 Top List

yeah my 4.2ghz clock is on water..tonight i was testing 4.288ghz 1.308V and its 45mnin prime stable and 1 hour CoD4 stable :)

Temps are very reasonable, I think these 45nm quads will do fine under air around 1.3-1.35V which hopefully is good for like 4.2-4.3ghz

a good lap and heatsink is close to water. in soe cases ive had better temps, justwater is better @ keeping its temp where as once you get to around 4ghz on the 65nm thigns get hot. like im pumping 450 fsb, right now so i know im capable of a higer oc i just need better cooling. i can get 475 stable to, just once again coolign is an issue.

My motherboard is far form its limit but I think I have gone as far as is sane on air for the time being. I'm pumping 1.42v to do 4ghz, so I'm at the edge of what I consider safe volts.

water is far superior to air when a cpu is fully loaded... FAR superior...

try running 1.7v through a 45nm dual core and see if you top out at 67c running 32m super pi

Yes, air can NOT compete with a good water setup. When i first broke 20k i was hitting as high as 80C on my q6600 with only 1.55v to get to 4ghz with a 50F ambient temp. Now on water, i can run my q6600 at 4ghz stable at 1.6v and never break 70C with ambient temps in the 70s F.

Also, microcenter has q9550s for 299 :) Time to go find me an e0 :p

Air cooling + cold room = low temps.

The cheapo way, is get dressed up in long johns and sweats, and get a window ac unit and run it full blast. get the ambient temps down to 60F...now lets see how cool stuff runs.

you mean 60f...

you crazy if you sitting in 60c... lol

oh man nice deal.. i was thinking of getting a skulltrail mobo... but i'm still super indecisive about it... would be awesome to have 2 45nm xeons

mod please merge my post! lol
