I did a 06 benchie last night on my newly built machine. Its e8600 at 4.0, 4 gb corsair dominator 8500 at stock speed, 4870x2 at 800/930 (latest drivers), all running on asus p5q deluxe. Running vista 64.

Running the default res for 3dmark06 i got 19800.

Does that seem about right?

Id like to try getting my cpu to at least 4.5 tonight, maybe that would take me close to 21k mark??. Ive seen some people getting 22k on very similar setup to mine, how are they doin it?

e8600 is able to run 5GHz on Air for benchies. Overclock anything you can. Also, you will lose points with Vista because of DirectX10.

No Problem. Get Windows XP or Server 2008 and hopefully you can be on our top 3.

You could just partition your drive for dual boot Vista for dx10 gaming and XP for benches. Thats what I plan to do.

Yes, you can do this but he has to have Windows XP CD to be able to install it.

i couldnt even do 5 ghz on water with a e8500.. i find this hard to believe!

Got my Core-Contact freezer and did some OCing. I am simply amazed by the results. This is good for tonight, but before the week is out Im going to break the 4ghz mark and keep going.
