I just came across that Ultra high mod tonight on that Crysis site that hosts every downloadable thing for it. But I have Vista-64 bit so I'm not sure if it'll work or not.

On XP, they disable Ultra-high (hence why there's a mod for it)
It'll work, it just isn't necessary on Vista. Ultra-high is enabled on Vista just as long as you have a DirectX 10 card.

Right, but some mods are meant to look like 'Very High' but they actually run much smoother (by about 5-10 fps) some are configured for performance

You won't exactly be able to choose "very high" from the game options, but it replaces the code for one of the settings (low, medium, high) with very-high settings. So if you replace the low settings, and you run the game with "low", it'll actually be running on very-high

oh no, your thinking of a very outdated method
you can now use the 'autoexec.cfg' file in the Crysis folder which overrides all the in-game option settings and you can customize it as you which, there are hundreds of different settings that are not constricted by having DX9 or DX10, and people have fooled around to come up with the best look/peformance
I personally use 'Cuban-Ultima-Doom-Sword's Custom Crysis Configs [CCC] v1.31'
Crysis is actually INCREDIBLY customizable, it has a lot of cvars (this one's old, the updated one is about twice as long):

I've also got my hands on a German blood & ragdoll patch, takes a little bit of work to get it working, but it works well, but it can funk up a lot of things, especially online, and you need to disable any custom stuff when going online otherwise you get errors, a bit of a hassle
I've attached the blood-ragdoll patch if anyone's interested (it's rather hard to find one that'll work after 1.2), install updates 1.1, 1.2 and 1.21, it might mess things up, so you might need to reinstall
