Default OCing amd processor and gfx

right now im running a socket 939 AMD 3800+ x2 with a geforce 7800 GT

im trying to figure out what the best way for me to get better performance in games based on the Half-life 2 engine

should i just overclock the processor, the gfx, or both?

are there any good programs out there for overclocking?

my processor runs at the stock speed of 2.0 ghz dual core and my graphics card runs at the default 400/1000 mhz

Use ATi Tool for the graphics card, and use BIOS for the processor.

Intel Q9400 | Gigabyte EP45-UD3P | G.Skill 2x2GB DDR2 1000 | XFX HD5870

no way, use riva tuner or coolbits for the gpu (where do you guys get this ATItool kick?). but yes on the bios for processor/cpu!

thanks for the posts

how much is considered standard for overclocking my processor? do i just adjust the FSB speed a little? do i use more voltage?

for my video card, should i just up the core clock or the memory clock too?

for your cpu. it all depends on what ram and motherboard you are using. A good goal for you right now would be 2.5 or something. You need to up the fsb then test the cpu to make sure it is stable. If not try upping the voltage a little. Always keep an eye on the cpu temps. when upping the voltage.

XP Pro | Vista Home Premium | Linux Ubuntu 7.10
s939 X2 3800 Toledo @ 2.6ghz | evga 7900gs | 320gig + 80gig wd | 1gb Ram | Abit KN8 SLI
3.1ghz achieved.
