OC AMD 955 BE with 2x2gb ddr3 @1600

A friend of mine bought the amd 955 be with gskill 2x2gb ripjaws rated @1600.

On stock the cpu is clocked at 200fsb multi x16 making it 3.2Ghz.

To run with a 1:1 ratio that would mean he'd have to set his ram to 400mhz right? It kinda seems like a waste running the ram only on 800mhz when it can do double.

He's ok with 3.2Ghz so would it be a good idea to set fsb to 400 and multi to 8? or does the fsb speed up all the other stuff too even if NOT set on auto and make everything run too hot?
 
Hmm. Sorry but I don't really understand.

What would be the best memory clock setting then with stock CPU settings? 200fsb, multi x16. Memory clock speed with 2 stick of ram? 400mhz/533mhz/666mhz/800mhz?

He has it currently set on 800mhz. 2 stick mean 800*2=1600 right? Read that the memory clock refers to ratio aswell 400 being 1:1 and so on.
 
DDR3 modules can transfer data at a rate of 800–2133 MT/s using both rising and falling edges of a 400–1066 MHz I/O clock. Sometimes, a vendor may misleadingly advertise the I/O clock rate by labeling the MT/s as MHz. The MT/s is normally twice that of MHz by double sampling, one on the rising clock edge, and the other, on the falling. In comparison, DDR2's current range of data transfer rates is 400–1066 MT/s using a 200–533 MHz I/O clock, and DDR's range is 200–400 MT/s based on a 100–200 MHz I/O clock. High-performance graphics was an initial driver of such bandwidth requirements, where high bandwidth data transfer between framebuffers is required.

It's actual speed is 800Mhz, which is it's I/O speed. It's MT, or Megatransfer speed is 1600. Which is why it's rated at 1600.

The 800Mhz that it is on, is the best for that ram, stock.

DDR = Double Data Rate. DDR, DDR2 DDR3, etc... are all Double Data Rate, the 2 and the 3 are just versions.

2 x 800 = 1600
