How come GPUs are not following in the same footsteps as CPUs?...getting smaller, more powerful, and produce less heat.

Id think because the architecture of a GPU is far more advanced than a CPU, especially for changing production methods. They are only now going to 80nm.

I'm sure in time due to obvious power problems, size and heat. They will have to start redesigning and coming up with more viable solutions.
