you would want to lower your temps for many reasons:

Number one reason would be that it would decrease the air temp in the case by a degree or two, and the proc would take slightly longer to go back up to high temps again,

Another reason would be possible power consumption reductions,this might not mean too much for one cpu, but for those of us running 3,4,5+ computers at once, the cpu drawing less power would make a difference if you compared the numbers on an annual basis.
