I just built a new PC. I had a Thermaltake K7 Volcano 11+ Xaser Edition included with the Package.

Is this fan necessary over the one that came with the AMD proccessor?

Are these Thermaltake fans only for Overclocking?

What are acceptable operating Temps of the MB and CPU?

Thanks

no not necessary. i notice now all retail versions of AMD XP processors 2000+ and up are including a high quality heatsink and fan combo that has a copper base. they run pretty good and silent.

besides overclocking those aftermarket heatsink like thermaltake are used to show off and those who take pride in modding their machines. i hope for your sake though you bought the reatail processor and not OEM even if you do not need the fan. retail gives you a full warranty from AMD, well worth the $5 difference from OEM

Thanks Ekaesine,
I'm not sure if overclocking would make much of a difference. I play games at the 1280/960 setting, and it plays fine. The Processor is retail, and their heatsink/fan Combo keeps it at 40-50 degrees.

Thanks again for reponding
