Default new system

i have monitor and perpherals, just need a case and im set. my total budget is around 1600 not any more. tell me if it is worth the cold cash.

note-processor is actually a socket 754..dunno why newegg changed it

If you get the 64bit processor are you going to run a 64 bit os, like Winxp64bit or maybe compile your kernal to handle it? Other then that go for it.

Looks good, but you really dont need the soundcard if your looking to save some money.

If your looking to save money, i dont think 1GB Ram is a major.

Since your budget is 1600, that setup seems fine. I'd go with a socket 939 3500 because amd said that 939 is gonna be around for a long time which means great upgradability in the future.

I'd save on:

Sound card - Unless you have a nice speaker setup or want home audio system or sumthin' a cheaper gaming sound card will do you fine.
RAM - 512MB will do you fine unless you are into memory hogging apps.

And i'd switch to:

Socket 939 CPU - 3000,3200,3500 will all do fine and overclock about the same.
939 Mobo - Abit, MSI, Asus, NF4 is out i believe. Best of the best lol

just my opinion...i think you could afford it if you save on the first 2.
