Default New computer

Ok here's the deal, I have about 2,500 to spend on another computer, this one is coming with me to college and I would like to be powered by AMD 64 FX and would like suggestions on:

motherboard, processor, ram, hard drive (im thinking 74 GB Raptors), Video Card, Speakers, Case (probably Coolermaster Wavemaster again), Monitor, Thanks for your time!

For graphics I would suggest the Radeon X800XT.

The Athlon FX is an amazing processor but it also means that you will need registered memory... adds a lot to the price.

For college I would definitely suggest using RAID -1 (mirror) then you won't lose any of your work. Also spend a bit more money on software for protecting your system, just make your you have 1GB+ of memory for the software to work with.

Personally I would get something like:
  • AMD Athlon 64 3500 64Bit (32 Bit compatible) CPU Socket 939 or better
  • 1Gb (2 x 512 Mb) Corsair TwinX, DDR500, PC4000PT, Cas 2
  • 256MB ATI Sapphire Radeon X800 XT VIVO Platinum
  • SATA 2x 200Gb Seagate Barracuda (7200rpm,8MB) - they are nice and quiet using onboard SATA controller.
  • Asus A8V Deluxe WIFI G, VIA K8T800PRO, Socket 939, Dual DDR400, GB LAN, 1394, SATA RAID

Then you will need a case, monitor, software etc. Personally I would choose an extremely quiet case with stealth fans... I get so annoyed by the constant humming sound.

Hope this helps a little.

Why do u need another comp for college. Ur system is already a next gen comp. I would keep the money then in another 6-8 months upgrade ur current comp..... makes a lot more sense.

I agree, I would personally just keep the computer you have at the moment. Unless its not yours or is staying at home.

I'm unable to take it with me because my family hi-jacked it. They told me I couldn't bring the computer I paid for to college but after gave me $3,000 and said to build myself a new one. It will actually be used for gaming, so Im thinking on putting it on the AMD 64 3500 system and taking the 19" NEC Superbright Diamatron thats currently on it.

save some money and get a CRT monitor and with the saved money, get the FX-53 with the registered memory, maybe in a few months you will have enough money to get another set of the same ram.
