Loud Laptop

First off, im not sure where to post this....

My laptop is quite loud. Im not sure if it's the guts of the system being loud or the fan being loud.

But I just want it to be a little more quite and I would love it.

2.2ghz
40gb
480mb ram
win XP

does it sound like its coming from the fan or the hard drive or the CDDrive or somethign (if you put your ear to it)?

is it like a loud hmmmm sound, if it's just that it's probably a fan just going at a fast rpm, or just ur hdd/cdrom just like toxic said. But this should go into hardware troubleshooting.
