Hi,

Hopefully I found the right forum and somebody can help me out here!

Briefly, I have a Medion MD6032 laptop, P4 2.53Ghz with a Geforce MX 440. It's a couple of years old now and was originally provided with Win XP Home SP1. Usually, playing games and so forth creates a lot of heat and within a couple of mins of CPU / GFX intensive use the fans audibly switch to a faster setting.

The problem is that upgrading to SP2 has somehow disabled the fans from turning up during intensive use. The result of this is that the machine gets very hot and slows down. Playing games for example, the first couple of mins are ok then the frame rate falls dramatically as the machine gets hot. Occasionally, this causes the machine to switch off - thermal shutdown I think it's called. Same for DVD playback.

Downgrading to SP1 resolves the problem. I was wondering if anybody had any suggestions for how I can get the fans working properly in SP2. Maybe there is a program to activate/deactivate them manually?

Any thoughts?
Thanks in advance..

My laptop seemed to do the same thing, Try a fan control program such as..
speedfan
CPUcool
or the one I use I8kfangui

I have all my fans set to high all the time, no matter what.
