Lapping question

I have a guide that says to clean the cpu and heatsink with acetone. What should I use? Paint thinner or something?

you can get acetone anywhere. If not alcohol is fine.

everyone just uses alcohol. 72% purity and up is best.

lol, definitely not paint thinner. Or any other cleaner/solvent for that matter.

Pure acetone or high-percentage Isopropyl alcohol is best.

I assume you mean after lapping the cpu? Theres no reason to clean it before as you'll be sanding off any dirt anyway. Just use high % alcohol and a coffee filter.

does it really matter if you don't do it at all? and use compressed air or something to blow off all the copper residue

I usually use the finest grain steel wool i can get my hands on, and then clean it after that.

By lapping it,, dont be expecting any huge losses in temp.. maybe a degree

Anybody on here actually see a big diff in temp?

I lost about 14C on my outer cores because my cooler and cpu werent making good contact.
